RWU Embassy, High Hroth
Hardly a day after the signing of the Treaty of Primerus, with the Allied nations' celebrations only just beginning to wind down, Spokesperson Viipuruz'dur Hjaeger Aada made her call to Kevlac Ballor Gresh.
The embassy, like most RWU constructions, was a blend of architectural styles. From the tranquil green of the gardens around it, a number of spirals weaved upward until they converged on a thick, blue-domed cylinder of red granite that constituted the main structure. Leading up to the structure's center was a colonnade-lined staircase, complementing the Centricus and Ayar styles with an Esharan touch.
The embassy's interior was more for function than appearance, as opposed to the exterior. Aada awaited the chief diplomat at a simple metal table in a room dominated by a glass wall facing the city.
"Greetings, Master Archivist Kevlac Ballor Gresh," she began. "It is good to finally meet you."

It was odd to see non-dronavi architecture on High Hroth. All the Graal structures been torn down after the reclamation. In fact the Nótthorfa had been working hard to remove all traces of Graal culture from the Holdworlds. At least that was the goal of that mad man Captain Varl. All
The white haired man sat down at the table, his walking stick laying across his knee. He nodded at the greeting. "The pleasure is all mine, thank you. How are you finding the home world, is it living up to your expectations?"

"It's home," Aada replied with a mix of longing and disappointment. "But with some new administrators," she added, as if to explain her tone. She let her head fall a few inches sideways, landing in the palm of her hand. "It is the place I remember, but with new faces, some with some ideas that worry me. Not to mention that I'm an outsider now, with Hold and Clan names to prove it. But I try to stay hopeful and just be happy to be back in the Holdworlds."
The Captain-Diplomat lifted her head back up and took a breath. "Now, I'm sure you're eager to move on to the reason for my call. The RWU would like to return to the subject of our last negotiations, which you might recall were suspended so as not to send the wrong signals to our allies during the war. The war is over now, and the RWU seeks a permanent alliance to help keep such war from coming back. What is the Dronav Holdworld's stance on this proposal?"

Gresh sighed slightly, at his age it was getting harder to remember all the details of every proposal he'd been informed of or asked to consider. "Would you be so kind as to restate the full details of the proposal for the record? Just so we both are one hundred percent clear on what is involved."

"We hadn't gotten to the details," Aada reminded Gresh politely. "We were merely discussing the possibility of a military alliance, but you preferred to hold off such talks until after the end of the war. The RWU wishes to resume these talks, and is eager to hear any stance the Dronav Holdworlds have regarding them."

"Ahh yes, I believe you also mentioned a mutual defense pact as an equally acceptable possibility." Gresh leaned his head to one side. "And I think that may be the best option right now and for the foreseeable future. The RWU has the respect of the Holdworlds due to you aid in the Reclamation and the fact that Viipuruz'dur is a functioning Hold also gives a bit of clout to you personally. However the Revolution that seems to be the focus of your nation is unsettling to many here, to some it is chaos without any leash. A full military alliance is out of the question, the council is afraid that you will drag us into a war with one of your 'Enemies of the Revolution' in an attempt to further spread your ideology." Gresh cracked his neck sharply. "However a mutual defense pact would be taken very differently. The idea of coming to the aid of our friends from the Second Solar war appeals to them greatly. So this is what the Holdworlds are willing to offer." - The RWU and Dronav Holdworlds will enter into a Defensive Pact stating that if either nation's sovereignty is treatened by a third party they will come to each others' aid.
- The RWU will continue their free trade agreement. That neither party will limit the merchants while on officially sanctioned business unless the merchandise offered violates restricted substance laws of the nation the sale is taking place.
- The Holdworlds and RWU will mutually patrol the trade routes shared between them and will carry out joint operations to deal with any threats found in those routes.

"Keep in mind that the RWU has only ever entered one war in its over a decade of existence, and has no immediate plans to enter another," Aada noted, attempting to dispel the fears Gresh conveyed. "The RWU is hardly chaos, and our designation of Enemies of the Revolution -which does not imply open war, do know- is neither arbitrary nor taken lightly.
"In any case, a mutual defense agreement would be most satisfactory. The RWU sees much in common with the Holdworlds, in particular that we are two of a handful of nations that represents and acts in the interest of our masses beyond a few minimal, symbolic tokens. This commonality is our greatest asset and also the one thing other nations will attempt to undermine for their own interests. If an MDP is a step towards securing this asset which defines us, then the RWU is willing to take it."

Gresh nodded. "I understand completely, but I'm just informing you on the views of the council. My job is after all to convey their wishes and opinions. I'm glad that our nations can agree on this MDP." He clapped his hands together. "Now, once we both have signed the agreement I know a wonderful restaurant in the lower merchant's quarter that serves some of the best food in the Hold. I had a table reserved for up to six if you'd like to bring some of your staff. My treat of course."

"I would be honored and delighted," Viipuruz'dur Hjaeger Aada replied. "In deciding on who from the embassy to bring with me, though, I must know: Does the restaurant serve food suitable for Ayar, humans, or Centricus?"

Gresh stopped for moment to think. " I believe any ayar or humans would be able to eat what is served, but to honest I have no idea about the centricus."

"Excellent. May I bring four of my staff with us, then? Or will you be bringing your own company as well?"

"No, just myself. I'll have my car come around front and take us all. It's so rare that I get to have good conversation with a meal."

"Then you should spend more time with us Revolutionaries," Aada replied half-jokingly. "Without millenia of traditions holding us down, our conversations are a veritable marketplace of novel ideas."

Greash let out deep belly laugh. The ride to the restaurant was short but pleasant. With Gresh regaling Aada and her staff with a story of his father's mining days. Once they had arrived and their food had been delivered he opened the conversation. "So anything interesting going on in far flung reaches, I understand the RWU has been sending out exploratory missions into the outer reaches."

"Well, as long as I'm in the company of someone who can be honest about his own government, I will let you in on a little controversy in the Union Council," Aada began in reply.
"We recently contacted a nation known as the Republic of Lintsyia, politically democratic but economically autocratic -that is, 'free market' capitalist-. They seem closer to a Workers' Democracy than Eshara, at least, and negotiations were proceeding well until xenophobic extremists hijacked our diplomat's train and murdered him. Idur Iyar, an Antoviyan student-revolutionary during the Wars. I didn't know him well, but I knew he was a good person.
"The Union Council was understandably upset, and was even more so when it learned that the extremists were a faction that rose out of popular response to an ongoing famine. To simultaneously protect RWU interests and ensure that the Lintsyian government stays accountable to its people, a slim majority of the Council saw fit to issue a list of demands including reparations for our diplomat's death and instant elections for a new Lintsyian Senate. Of course, the more level heads, namely Leneru, who was absent, Jaira Devikar, and Briyandawas Karad, were advocating a more conciliatory approach, but they were simply outvoted. After a great deal of haggling, the Lintsyians agreed to pay reparations, but naturally refused all other demands and accused us of imperialism. They don't know, of course, that Leneru would never give the needed approval for actually carrying out the Council's threats regarding if the demands were not met.
"This is all to say, our only contact in the far reaches has been a disaster, and I won't mince words: Kazamar and his camp in the Council sabotaged it. Fortunately, Leneru and Devikar are the primary determiners of foreign policy, but I fear for what will happen next time the Field Marshal decides to hijack a situation."
Aada sighed with a mix of disappointment and frustration. "So, what of the Holdworlds?"
