Raid on Dis Colony Belligerents: Graal Pirates vs Esharan Colonists
Backstory: Since the beginning of Graal and Esharan trading that started in 3122, Graal pirates (secretly sponsored by the Graal Hegemony) began raiding Esharan freighters for larger bounties. Eventually, the Graal pirates found a small colony of independent entrepreneurs on the moon colony of Dis. Mostly trillionaires and other less wealthy businessmen, these Esharans have amassed a huge amount of wealth and it's ripe for the picking. A small pirate fleet has amassed and decided to attack the colony.

Esharan Moon Colony " Swarm them! Swarm them! For Graal " The communique played a half dozen times before any of the vessels started forward. Much like a swarm of insects the fat and wobbly Graal fighters alongside the longer and somewhat sleek Light Freighters and the two oblong Heavy Freighters shot across the jagged, grey surface of the moon toward the isolated colony. They would come down on the colony like a horde and attempt to catch them unawares. The 12 Fighters would attempt to disable the enemy Heavy Freighter, whether it was looking abroad or berthed at a port, while the small Light Freighters headed toward the Communications Array.
The Heavy Freighters stayed together as well, but they charged into the fray just the same, not afraid to take on the Rail Cannons head on by turning their turrets to the side and loosing barrages directly into where the Rail Cannons were mounted.

'' Enemy contacts! '' Warning Klaxons rang as the commanding Prefect Sextus Magnus turned his gaze towards the auspex screen as the Graal pirates loomed closer and closer. The command bunker was hot and tense as the troops moved to their duty stations. So these were the pirates that had plagued the trade lanes that Magnus had been warned about. The experienced veteran immediately began barking orders.
'' Arm the rail cannons. Guard the damned communications relay at all cost. Without it, we're dead! Send out a system wide alert to all colonists to proceed to their safe zone sites. '' While the Graal pirates might have the numbers, the Graal themselves were an old enemy. Eshara had developed tactics and most importantly technology to bite through the thick skinned hulls of their ships. There was the roar of kinetic energy as the rail cannons spat death towards the light freighters that were charging towards the communications relay. Meanwhile, the patrol cutter Argile ( a vessel used normally to combat smugglers ) had swung ponderously to shield the communications system. Her heavier guns turning to confront the light freighters, even as the Graal fire from the heavier freighters intensified. Six Scorpio class fighters had also taken off in a V shaped formation, heading on a collision course for the twelve Graal fighters that outnumbered them two to one. They had elected to climb high and pounce on them from above.

Mod Mark Fighters
As the Graal fighters veered for the Esharan heavy freighter, the Esharan equivalent came flying in from the top. The two different groups outpaced their heavier brothers and so were the first to truly be in range and able to engaged. Six of the twelve Graal fighters broke off from the group to be able to engage with the Esharan fighters as they came barreling in. One Graal fighter was unlucky enough to have its wing clipped by the mac rounds from the Esharan's and was sent wheeling off into space.
Freighters
The two of Graal heavy freighters let loose at the extreme end of their firing range doing minor damage to the rail cannons while the much heavier weapons fired at the mass of light freighters approaching the communication array. The audible warning klaxons came from two of them as the mac rounds tore through the hulls and they started to fall behind the rest of the group. The other ten Graal freighters opened up on the communications array as they came into range. With them moving into range also allowed the Esharan heavy freighter to target and engage one of the other light freighters, even though it was assaulted by the six other remaining Graal fighters.
End Turn 1
Skirmish Assessment: *Minor Damage to Esharan rail guns. *Minor Damage to Esharan heavy freighter. *Moderate Damage to Esharan communications array. *Heavy Damage to two Graal Light Freighters *Moderate Damage to one Graal Light Freighter *One Graal Fighter out of commission.

Esharan Moon Colony
Graal Fighters The battle became pitched as the Esharans came down, having caught one of their number unaware. The fighters broke off and comm chatter became erratic. " On your tail! " " I've got him! " " Hard left, he's coming around! " The other six fighters went on unopposed and performed their first run on the Esharan Heavy Freighter, lighting it's side up with heavy blaster fire that shone a deep green. They split up as they flew past the Heavy Freighter to make a second round. Graal Freighters The Graal Freighters continued to exchange blows with the stationary rail cannons. Some of the Graal Light Freighters, damaged by the streaking MAC shells started to fall behind, but the bridge of the lead Heavy Freighter was all battle. The pirate Korrugg Sil-Starr stood on the bridge of the lead Heavy Freighter and directed his small force with opportunity and decisiveness. " Continue forward! The Light Freighters will continue on to the Communications Array and destroy it. We must destroy the Rail Cannons! " The Light Freighters that were not damaged continued on a direct route toward the Communications Array, although the patrol cutter Argile was blocking it, the fighters would be of admirable assistance in helping to take down the Heavy Freighter.[/blockquote]

The Rail Cannons had turned their attention from the wounded Graal light freighters that had fallen behind and towards the Graal pirate vessels that we're making a bee line for the communications relay.
'' How long until we've established a damned link with the navy? '' Magnus barked.
'' A few more minutes sir! '' The Prefect gritted his teeth as he leaned forward's on his command chair.
'' Get me a firing solutions on the lead ships of that Graal formation! '' The Rail Cannons once more barked death, sending high velocity mac rounds straight towards the light freighters that we're leading the Graal attack on the communications relay. The Graal ships were closer now, which was dangerous for the Rail Cannons but also equally dangerous for the freighters. It would mean that the Cannons had more killing power the closer the pirates came.
Meanwhile, the Argile continued to fire on the Graal 'fleet' that marched towards the relay. The Prefect's only hope was that the brunt of the damage sustained to the relay could be blocked by the Argile's heavy mass. They only needed a little more time to make contact with the REN.
In the ensuing dog fight, the Esharan's became tangled with their Graal adversaries splitting off into sections. Missiles spat and heavy machine gun rounds flew in a dance of death. Three of the fighters split off from the Esharan formation to aid the Argile as the Graal fighters began their attack run on the patrol cutter. If they managed to get away from the initial dogfight, then they would be (hopefully) directly behind the Graal fighters and in perfect firing position.

Fire filled the space between the opposing side as the battle raged. With both the Graal and Esharan vessels moving into the effective range of their guns, the casualties began to mount up. While the Graal fighters harassed the heavy freighter without much success in punching through the hull, they were able to get in some nice shots. Their counterparts on the other hand in the dog-fight didn't fare so well. Even though the Graal contained more combat prowess that the Esharan's, the Esharan's were use to watching each others backs and had better technology.
The rail cannons reigned death in amongst the Graal light freighters that was also combined with the that of the heavy freighter trying desperately to defend the communications array. Several Graal freighters ceased to exist except for the brief violent explosion that shot out into space. Though the Graal knew victory in their own right. One of the rail cannon's ceased its barrage while explosions racked the second. The Esharan heavy freighter couldn't defend the array fully with such numbers that came at the communications array as internal explosions racked the structure.

Esharan Moon Colony
Light Freighter Koba The Graal, although taking heavier casualties than most others would, continued their onslaught. A warrior's death was the only honorable one. The Moon Colony of Dis would fall. This was their mission. Even without the shining, brazen metals of the Gnatar across their chest, they were still Graal. With superior fighting skill, they would best an enemy who possessed superior technology and with it they would make off with a huge bounty and forever be immortalized as the bringers of death. The intricacies of Graal society were simplified by war, and these intricacies were made even more simplified at the end of a blaster, or at the helm of a greater warship. The Light Freighter who barely remained afloat broke off from the engagement and dropped low across the surface of the lunar colony before moving in to access one of the half dozen vacuum tight space corridors that allowed luxury liners to ferry people to and from the colony. The arm attached and the Graal smuggler on one side began to cut through the thick titanium doorway, since he had neither the hacking prowess to best it's technological code or the wit to trick the door into opening anyway. Once open, the two dozen Graal smugglers; carrying ballistic pistols and sub machine guns moved into the complex to begin combating whatever security forces were present and slaughtering the wealthy inhabitants of the colony who had been caught in the hellstorm. Graal Fighters " For Graal! " The Graal pilot Serrug had been injured, his left engine out of the battle due to a stray MAC round that nearly vaporized his ship. Blood seeped through his flightsuit and he sagged heavily at the controls, but there were better fish to be hunting and for the most part his smoking vessel had been largely forgotten, or so he hoped. He made a broad sweeping turn as his fighter threatened to jerk out of his grip and he lined it up directly with the bridge of the Esharan Heavy Freighter. He increased thrust to 100%, though the left engine remained without life and it was the right thruster that powered up and pushed him forward. He intended to run straight into the bridge, to end his life as well as the life of his enemies if at all possible.[/blockquote]

Command Center: '' This is Dis Colony, we are under attack from Graal pirates and request immediate assistance. I repeat the colony of Dis is under attack from Graal pirates and in need of immediate assist---'' The comm system went offline which meant that it had been destroyed. At the least, the Prefect had managed to send one garbled message to the nearby Esharan naval base. If the communications had been received, then one of the patrolling frigates or destroyers would be re-routed to deal with the Graal threat.
'' The Graal are breaching! '' Came the cry from one his officers who immediately brought up a holo pict screen of several Graal cutting their way past the heavy outer doors into the colony facility. A nearby burning freighter being their obvious mode of transport. If the vessel had been that damaged he wondered how many of the Graal could actually be alive to contend with.
'' Drop the security doors, we're going to engage them outside the vault room. Two of you stay here to oversee the remaining rail cannon. '' Thankfully the weapon was automated and didn't rely on many crew members to see that it was functioning. The Prefect rose from his seat, stalking towards the arms locker where he began distributing shotguns, rifles, and carbines to the fifteen men who filled the command center. The men scrambled from the control room down to the vault level where they took up position outside of it, using anything that they could for cover including walls and desks. Slowly but surely they could hear the hum of saw's as one by one the security doors fell. Magnus thumbed the safety off of his submachine gun and waited for the inevitable.
--------------------------------------- The Rail Cannon meanwhile still fought on defiantly, she had enough power for a few more shots and sought to take revenge on the heavy freighters which had bombarded the rail gun platforms. A firing solution had been lined up with one of the Graal vessels and spat a high velocity mac round at it. Meanwhile, with the comm system down there was no reason for the Argile to stand there and take punishment. Engine's roared as the patrol cutter began evasive maneuvers, turning her attentions on the heavily damaged light freighter which had docked. A firing solution was drummed up and once more her cannons sent death roaring towards the enemy ship. Hopefully, by dealing with the small freighter it would prevent the Graal from escaping with whatever plunder that they could steal from the vault. The Argile's point defense weapons continued to stream out shells at the circling Graal fighters.
------------------------------------------ Esharan Squadron 602 The Esharan aircraft had given as good as they had got, with only two losses of their own despite the enemy numerical advantage. The Esharan's broke free of the melee, reforming into a group of four and swinging back to engage the Graal fighters, their wingmen covering their sixes as they plowed back into the fray, guns and missiles roaring death.

With the destruction of the communications array, the Graal turned their attack on the colony with the damaged light freighter being escorted/protected by its hale counterpart. Though they had the time to take for the damaged freighter to off load troops into the colony, the vessel wasn't long for this world as the Esharan heavy freighter being constantly harassed by the Graal fighters let loose into the weakened hull. The Graal light freighter exploded in a fiery ball, damaging the colony's outer wall causing several breaches which vented atmosphere into space. Warning klaxons within the colony signaled out the loss of atmosphere before the emergency bulkheads closed off the exposed areas; leaving red strobe lights going off throughout the facility.
The last remaining rail gun fired out rounds as the crews fought the inevitable destruction of their major point defense weapon. Because of the damage the weapon had already taken, it wasn't completely able to take down either of the heavy freighters. It though did buy the Esharan's what little time they had.
As the Graal fighters went at another run of Esharan heavy freighter, the four remaining Esharan fighters fell on them with the tactical advantage of height and speed. The lock on warnings blared in the cockpits just moments before the Esharans fired. The two Graal fighters that were targeted were turned to scrap as the Esharan fighters flew past to get into position on the flanks; which left the four remaining fighters to choose on continuing their assault on the freighter or engage their new threat.
Aboard the heavy freighter the collision alarms began to sound as the vessel began maneuvering out of the path of the suicide run by a Graal fighter. A collision was unavoidable though because of the vessel's size and damage sustained already. So to was the Graal pilot's inability to correct for the change in direction with the burnt out engine and damage to one of its wings. The much smaller fighter slammed into the midsection of the ship causing a gaping wound in the Esharan heavy freighter.
End Turn 3
Skirmish Assessment
*Esharan rail guns are both destroyed. *Esharan heavy freighter at 35% combat effectiveness, Engines at 50%, Hull at 25%. *Esharan Fighters with 2 KIA and 4 at 100% effectiveness. *Esharan communications array destroyed. *Graal Light Freighters with total of 4 KIAs and 1 at 100% effectiveness *Graal Fighter with 8 KIA and 4 Fighters at 100% effectiveness. *Graal Heavy Freighter have one at 50% combat effectiveness and hull at 25%, and one Heavy Freighter at 100% effectiveness.

Mod Mark (So we can end this and this would probably be the final turn out anyways.)
The Graal pirates had accomplished what they had sent out to do in the first place though it had come at heavy losses to their own side. The Esharan heavy freighter and final fighter had fought valiantly till the end, but the result was their death. With all of the opposing defenses, eliminated the Graal had begun looting the vault on the colony when the Esharan reinforcements showed up. Knowing that their chances of getting away with their loot were slim against the fresh Esharan forces, they packed up with what they could and ran.
With one hale heavy freighter and light freighter escorting their heavily damaged heavy freighter, the Graal pirates counted themselves lucky with how things had ran their course. Of coarse most of the bounty would have to go to refitting the damaged freighter as well as any other repairs, all in all they made out well. The Esharan reinforcements were left with a debris field and the tedious task of collecting the dead and salvaging what they could.
End of Skirmish
Skirmish Assessment ***Graal pirates make away with 70% of vault 7 credits). *Esharan rail guns are both destroyed. *Esharan heavy freighter KIA. *Esharan Fighters with 6 KIA. *Esharan communications array destroyed. *Graal Light Freighters with total of 4 KIAs and 1 at 100% effectiveness *Graal Fighter with 12 KIA. *Graal Heavy Freighter have one at 35% effectiveness, and one Heavy Freighter at 100% effectiveness.
