'' If you have a home left to return to Ambassador. '' Drussus said. '' The only thing the Graal fear is the Esharan Navy, which right now is gathering on the Graal frontier. But they can't stay there forever. Grant me the authority to write up a peace treaty. If the Graal do not accept, then Eshara will evict them from High Hroth through force. '' On the subject of mass drivers, now it was the Senator's turn to scowl.
'' If we did that, it would be quite obvious as to who was supplying you with these new weapons. Perhaps we might entertain a trade for Dronavi Industry secrets. '' It was well known that the Dronav had superior factories and had maximized its building prowess on its home worlds. '' But that is talk for another time. In the interim, we will repair your war vessels, provide food and fuel for your men, and begin mobilization to back up our words to the Graal. ''
[ Since apparently weapons tech is in flux right now, I can't really negotiate on it. ]

A simple message had been sent throughout the Galaxy reaching all the many civilizations of the stars. "We the Dronav Holdworlds reject the treaty of Treaty of Linnuwug and if the Graal will not leave on their own they will be removed by force any who help us will be considered friends of Dronavi."

Fergal had been living in Esharan space for half a decade. He had lost a deal of weight in that time. His fine rebreather mask had been sold two years after the Graal had taken his home. The mask he wore now was made of stainless steel and had a traditional knot work motif. He had been contacted by the home world with message for the Esharans much to his shock. He had been sure that he had been all but forgotten by the powers that be. He had sent Drussus a request to speak with him a short time ago and now could only wait.

The Galaxy was a place of constant upheaval. The Dronav Holdworld's had been battered and bruised in their uprising against their oppressors the Graal Hegemony, the Ayar we're involved in their civil war against the Royalists, the Reich had just survived a brutal war against the Centicrus, and the Graal we're fighting for survival in their desert worlds from the Allies.
But Eshara stayed the same, unscathed through all the death and destruction of her barbaric neighbors. A galactic capital of finance where industrial barons gambled their wealth on stocks in the market, winning and losing fortunes, while the lower classes toiled below to make it all happen. The capital building housing the Foreign and Interior Ministry was a sprawling place. Full of government flunkies, bureaucrats, soldiers, politicians, and every citizen that had a voice to be heard. Senator Drussus was hard at work preparing for the next election of the Princeps. The time of Alexandros Kommenous was coming to an end, his designated successor Titus Drake was expected to overtake the other candidates in the early round of voting. It was the Dronavi representative whom drew Drussus away from his labors.
'' Send him in. '' He instructed the holo drone, which hovered in front of his desk. It turned quickly, flying out of the door (nearly colliding with the skull of an unfortunate intern) before coming to rest infront of Feral informing him to proceed to the esteemed Senator's office for his appointment.
As usual, Drussus was blunt and to the point.
'' What can I do for you my friend? '' He somehow kept the undercurrent of anger out of his voice at the Dronav's lack of enthusiasm for prosecuting the ground campaign on Sorguth Prime.

"First our government would like to apologize for the fact that we haven't made it to the ground yet. From what I understand High Command is one giant circle jerk right now with the FHA officers pushing one agenda and the old guard trying to keep things in order."
Fergal leaned against one of the chairs in front of Drussus's desk. They were designed for Esharans and as such were slightly uncomfortable for the Dronavi physiology, not to mention that it put him in mind of a child sitting at his father's table.
"But beyond that we were hoping that the Esharan government would be interested in a trade agreement with the Holdworlds. We look forward to working together to improve both our nations."

'' We've taken nearly 90,000 casualties in the space of two weeks. '' The Senator said, his face looking drawn for the first time.'' It is my duty to inform you that the Republic will be making an overture to the Graal to ascertain the possibility of preliminary peace talks aimed at ending the war. We will not abandon our allies, but we believe that we have done our part. The Graal have been ejected from your homeworlds, we've established a major bridgehead as to which the Dronavi can reinforce and then use to continue their attack onto Primerus while inflicting major losses on the Graal forces. But a general draw down of our troops will be happening once the conditions allow. Now that the threat has been extinguished, our own world's need to be looked after. With our commitments on the Graal front, our own forces are stretched thin. '' There was more here at work than casualties. To a point, the Graal we're extremely useful at rattling sabers and diverting attention away from Eshara and her own ambitions. A threat that Eshara didn't want to see replaced by communists that would give the RWU a base of operations.
'' As for the prospect of trade, we are open to that as always. ''

"Our condolences to their families, I'm sure they fought nobly. We make no claim that we have any right to dictate policy to you, nor would we presume to say you have aided us in the reclamation." Fergal's eyes danced with impish mischief. "Though we have heard the most disturbing rumor about a race of humans calling themselves the Varium have joined with the Graal in trade and may have even sworn military aid. I thought I had heard of one of their ships had come into Esharan space recently. Is that true?
Fegal leaned against the chair in a more relaxed manner as if this was no real concern. "But now I think we should move to more profitable matters we the holdworlds offer to open our ports to Esharan ships and we request you do the same. Would that be an acceptable agreement?

'' Yes, we demanded that they end their collaboration with the Graal and they refused. Thus, they have been declared enemies of the Republic. That would depend. '' Drussus said, drumming his fingertips on the table as he eyed the Dronav opposite him. '' What exactly is the Dronav's relationship with the RWU? ''

Fergal stopped for a moment. "At this time we have a trade contract with them and I think an agreement to exchange media with the hold on their world. As well they are fighting alongside us against the Graal same as your men."

'' We both know that thing's will change after Sorguth Prime. The Ayar are growing too ambitious and may wish to extend their revolution through further conquest. '' Drussus said with a sigh. '' But this is a topic we can address at a different juncture. I will have my Deputy draw up a treaty of trade between our two peoples so that merchants can begin moving freely across our borders. ''

Fergal had arrived early in the morning to make his appointment with Senator Drussus. He had an official proposal to give to the Republic from the Holdworlds. He had feeling there would be quite the discussion once he met with Drussus.

Drussus as usual was found in his office, the Senator looked more aged and tired with the conclusion of the war. There were even flecks of silver in his hair that not even rejuvination treatments seemed to be able to stop. After clasping the diplomats hand, the Senator dropped back into his seat. '' Now, what can I do for you today? ''

"How are you doing Drussus, your looking haggard my friend." Fregal did like the man. He was decent for a human, sure he fought hard to get the best deal possible for his nation but then again every ambassador should do that. "As to the our official business, first the Holdworlds wish to inform the Republic that we have entered mutual defense pact with the RWU. Second we wish to offer the Republic the same terms that were given to the RWU." He passed the senator a data-slate with the terms. Mutual Defense Pact - The Republic of Eshara and Dronav Holdworlds will enter into a Defensive Pact stating that if either nation's sovereignty is threatened by a third party they will come to each others' aid.
- The Republic of Eshara and Holdworlds will continue their free trade agreement. That neither party will limit the merchants while on officially sanctioned business unless the merchandise offered violates restricted substance laws of the nation the sale is taking place.
- The Holdworlds and Republic of Eshara will mutually patrol the trade routes shared between them and will carry out joint operations to deal with any threats found in those routes.

Fregal would have to wait for more than a month for his reply. The day after Drussus had gone to present the terms to the Esharan Senate, the whole world had changed. The Princeps had been murdered by what the media claimed to be an RWU inspired sniper, the military swiftly moved in to crush an apparent conspiracy amongst the government. A new constitution was declared, large bodies in the Senate dissolved, as the country vested it's powers into a single new ruler. But surprisingly or perhaps not so, Drussus had survived the purge. He had proven invaluable as a Foreign Minister with his many contacts and however much the military would've liked to be rid of him, he was the parasite that could not be killed.
When Fergal was next brought to the Ministry, he would notice the change in decoration. A massive portrait of Vespasian I sat behind the Senator who was sporting a Rexist party badge on his arm. '' I apologize on the delay to responding to your terms. The Rep-- I mean.. '' He cleared his throat. '' In the name of the Glorious Emperor Vespasian, we would accept. If the Dronavi Holdworld's officially recognize the Dominion of Eshara and it's current government as it's rightful rulers. ''

"Of course we will recognize your Government, though this Emperor Vespasian is a name that I am unfamiliar with. I have heard several reports but I would like to hear the unadorned word from you."
